Sax Fest

This is festival for saxophones, don't get too excited :-)

As I have mentioned before my course encourages us to get involved in local music projects, so my classmates and I have been helping out at the Sound Festival.

This weekend was awesome: Saturday at the university which had a whole day of workshops for saxophonists. These workshops were immensely popular, and covered all range of genres and abilities. We had beginners saxphone for more classical learners, right up to advanced jazz improvisation.

My experience in bands helped a bit as I utilised my roadie skills :-) I was being a general dogsbody and making photocopies for people, getting water, helping to humph drumkit stands, finding the key to unlock the padlock for the piano, etc. Being a music student isn't quite the glamorous pursuit that people think it is!

I was fair chuffed with myself though. I took along a few bits of kit as I knew that youngsters would be along for some workshops. I assumed that at least one of them would forget something, so I brought along some cables, spare sax reeds, a tuner, etc. It wasn't one of the youngsters, but one of the tutors that forgot stuff. There was a bit of miscommunication somewhere along the line, and so the bass guitar tutor came along without a bass guitar. Oh s***. We managed to find a bass guitar from the music department instrument cupboard, but nobody had a spare cable.

Along comes Jayne to save the day!!
:-)

One of the cables that I had brought was a jack-to-jack cable, exactly what was needed for the tutor to attach the bass to his amp.

I hope that my professor at uni gets wind of this little story, maybe it will help me on my way to a good mark :-)
